In 1873, a mere 2,300 Liberty Seated Silver Dollars were crafted at the Carson City Mint, and there is speculation that a considerable number were melted during the transition from the Seated Liberty design to the new Trade dollar format. Within the four CC Seated dollar issues, the 1873-CC stands out as the scarcest, posing a more challenging quest than the 1871-CC due to its lower mintage, particularly in the search for surviving coins across all grades. Mint state examples of this coin are seldom, if ever, encountered in the market, with only a handful known to exist. The rigorous grading standards have played a role in diminishing the number of coins deemed 'mint state,' as many examples discovered just a few decades ago now find themselves in AU58 holders. This further amplifies the significance of any offering of the 1873-CC Seated Dollar.

As the rarest among the four Carson City Liberty Seated Silver Dollars and encased in an OGH holder, this specimen's appeal is elevated to an even greater extent. Being safeguarded in the old green holder, specifically PCGS 3.1, serves as a testament to the coin’s originality, having been preserved for over twenty-five years.

This exceptional VF30 example stands out with remarkable eye-appeal for its grade. The coin's overall coloration showcases an attractive olive-gray hue, adorned with iridescent nuances of gold, deep blue, and green enveloping both sides. Impressively, it displays excellent detail, maintaining a splendid circulated cameo state due to the wear it has endured over time. The motifs are distinctly sharp, offering full readability of LIBERTY, while the reverse boasts strong definition. Notably, the surfaces exhibit no significant abrasions or lines, presenting only honest wear. The eye appeal is particularly bold, adding to the allure of this rare issue. No relevant auction comparable (comps) are seen in the past 8 years. In fact the only CAC sale in any grade in the past 8 years was a AU55 PCGS CAC for $117,500 07/22 LE and AU58 PCGS CAC for $132,000 08/22 HA. In all grades only 7 examples have received CAC approval. Finer than this example will cost 6 figures. For advanced collectors, this represents a noteworthy opportunity to acquire the rarest CC-mint Seated dollar.
