NGC
Undervalued in lower grades, this 1872-S Liberty Head Half Eagle, graded NGC VF30 and approved by CAC, is an appealing mid-grade example of this very scarce San Francisco issue, struck from a modest mintage of just 36,400 coins with an estimated survival of only 115 pieces! Original patina and honest circulation wear give the coin vintage charm and character, underscored by its rarity in CAC-approved condition — with only two CAC examples reported in VF and no recorded sales at this grade. Considering the sharp increase value thanks to a few Fairmont example like the XF45 PCGS CAC for $2,880 11/24 SB where in 2018 XF45 PCGS CAC were selling for $1,560 01/18 HA. Acquiring a Half Eagle that is CAC approved with 115 known in all grades under $2,000 represents excellent value in our opinion.
