This ex Stacks Bowers example sold 03/17 for $3,055 and was part of the Blue Moon Collection, prior it sold in July 1981 at Stacks and before that it is traced to the Garrett Collection from March 1976, another incredible collection. It was described as “...an attractive and highly significant 1872 Proof half dime of Registry Set quality. Both sides are richly toned -- original in the case of this and other Garrett Collection coins. The obverse is olive-copper, reddish-orange and charcoal-blue, while the reverse is dove gray, cobalt blue and pale pink.
