The economic turmoil caused by the Civil War, led to silver and copper being hoarded which in turn prompted Congress to begin issuing paper money and smaller denominations such as the three cents to replace the hoarded coins. This Liberty Head Three Cent Nickel is an absolutely under-graded piece which is our opinion at least a PR66 today. There are no marks or hits that can be found making the surface flawless and immaculate, but luster is slightly subdued due to the toning. These pieces are seldom seen with toning, but this example boasts calm light coral orange and burnt sienna hues.
