1871-CC Seated Liberty quarter is among the most coveted in Liberty Quarter and Carson City issues. With an original mintage of 10,890 coins, Rusty Goe (2020) estimates a surviving population of 45-60 pieces, and of those, most have poor eye appeal. 1871-CC 25C is without a doubt the rarest in the series, second to the unobtainable 1873-CC 25C No Arrows half a million dollar coin. This collector-grade example features original steel-grey patina, complete rims and well-defined design elements. The surfaces are free of distracting marks and hits as seen on most examples. Excluding its rarity we find this VG-10 example a desirable find given its quality we find it worthy of inclusion. No VG10 has sold in the past 30 years, though a choice FR02 PCGS CAC sold for $26,400 08/22 HA. 2 grades lower in G06, a PCGS example sold for $11,700 10/21 HA. Considering most of the survivors come with poor eye appeal or cleaned surface, for example a PCGS F15 has thoroughly pitted surface, this example represents truly one of the best examples we have seen or one you will be able to acquire for the foreseeable future.
