The 1871-CC Seated Liberty Quarter stands as a hallmark of American numismatic history, boasting one of the lowest mintages in the entire series with just 10,890 coins struck. Due to extensive circulation, loss, or melting, the survival rate of this quarter is exceptionally low, with an estimated 80 examples known to exist today. Despite a mintage slightly higher than the 1870-CC, this issue is, in fact, rarer, with both certified population and auction appearances being only about two-thirds of its predecessor. Notably, Carson City coin expert Rusty Goe ranks the 1871-CC among "the eight rarest date-denominations in the comprehensive Carson City coin series (silver and gold)," placing it alongside legendary rarities like the 1873-CC No Arrows dime and quarter, and the 1876-CC twenty-cent piece. Inclusion in such a distinguished list underscores the 1871-CC Seated Liberty Quarter's significance in the world of rare coins. With a PCGS population of just 5 and 2 in CAC, any 1871-CC quarter is considered a true rarity, regardless of its condition. This coin's grade is limited by reverse wear, which has erased the entire rim and portions of the border legends, though the obverse retains rims. The surfaces are smooth and unaltered, displaying a pleasing wood-brown with no distracting marks. CAC Pop 2 and the lowest at that with the other CAC example selling for a strong $26,400 08/22 HA. Fortunately we are pleased to also have in our offering a 1870-CC 25C AG03 PCGS CAC. A non-CAC AG03 will cost approximately $10,000 today, and finding a CAC approved example for this key date cannot be understated.
