1854 1/2C MS64 RD OH NGC CAC

Struck only in 8 years, Braided Hair Half Cents range in rarity and availability, but the prize has always been acquiring RD examples. The 1854 Half Cent offered here is a Choice Mint State example housed in an old fatty holder, displaying vibrant, original color and outstanding surface preservation, with full Red pieces of this issue encountered only infrequently at this level. With no CAC finer in Red designation and only 40 estimated in Red in all grades, this coin is exceptionally primed for appreciation in our opinion, as it is rarer than 1851, 1855 and about as rare as 1856 and 1857 in RD. No MS64 RD CAC has sold; however a 1857 1/2C MS64 RD PCGS CAC sold for $7,800 11/24 HA, whilst more recently a relevant 1856 1/2C MS63 RD OGH PCGS CAC sold for $8,400 10/25 HA. This coin is as rare and worth about 1856 and 1857. Given the OGH was likely a MS64 RD and the fact that this example has serious claims to a higher grade, it is one of the most undervalued coin in our opinion. In fact in the past 5 years only 1 MS64 RD CAC has sold which was the aforementioned 1857 for $7,800. 1857 also had a CAC Price of $9,500 compared to this date at $7,000. Did we mention also there are no CAC stickered or graded finer.
