Liberty Seated Dollar

The 1871 Seated Liberty dollar is a highly appealing representative of the With Motto type, struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a mintage of 1,074,760 pieces, yet far fewer have survived in collectible condition, with an estimated 3,000 extant across all grades. While the issue is often the most frequently encountered of the Motto-type dollars in today’s market, it remains a scarce coin in absolute terms, particularly in toned, original preservation such as the present example. Seated Dollars are one of the most sought in circulated condition today, and yet we are pleased to offer one of the most beautiful circulated examples seen. The surfaces exhibit a pleasing blend of soft silver-gray centers framed by a vivid ring of peripheral toning, where hues of cobalt-blue, teal, and russet-gold gather along the rims, accentuating the design with natural contrast and depth. Light, even wear and scattered marks are consistent with the grade, yet the overall appearance remains smooth and balanced, with attractive eye appeal enhanced by the colorful toning and underlying luster. Last AU53 PCGS CAC sold for $2,160 11/22 SB for a non toned example in a weaker market.
