1870 2C MS66BN NGC

Single Finest. NGC POP 1/0. PCGS 0/0. 1870 2C and one of the lowest mintages for the entire 2C series. What non-specialists are not aware of is that from the 1864 to 1872, mintages started from 13 million with each year producing less and less. Thus 1870 2C as the third last date, has the third lowest mintage at 861,250 compared to more popular dates like 1864 or 1865 whose mintage is around 13 million. Whilst no Brown PCGS example has ever been certified there are a few RB examples having last sold for $4,230 6 years ago and with a current PCGS Price Guide of $5,250. This present example firstly has about 10-15% Red in our opinion and should have been awarded RB designation. Regardless, there has been no Brown MS66 sale, though PCGS suggest a Price Guide of $2,250. Hypothetically speaking this should sell somewhere between $2,250 and $5,250 or $3,750. The coin has no hits, or spots as commonly seen and has full lines on the shield. A superb example that seems uncommonly attractive and is among the finest 1870 2C.
