This 1869-S Seated Liberty Dime, PCGS MS67 in an Old Green Holder, CAC-approved, and pedigreed to the famed Eliasberg & Clapp Collection, is the finest known example of this challenging San Francisco issue, with PCGS and CAC populations each at 1/0 and no known examples finer. The surfaces are brilliant and frosty, described by the Eliasberg catalog as “a fitting companion to the San Francisco dimes earlier offered… brilliant and frosty… sharp and very early strike from the dies, and unusual as such,” More impressive this coin is pedigreed all the way back to 1906. With warm champagne-gold, pale honey, and golden-orange hues deepening in the protected areas, both sides are impressively preserved, with soft frosty devices and strong cartwheel luster in the fields, with incredibly sharp strike. With a survival estimate of just 300 pieces in all grades, this example stands as a numismatic monument, combining its Superb Gem preservation, CAC verification, and storied pedigree. An absolutely stunning Superb Gem from an illustrious provenance, this 1869-S dime represents a rare opportunity for the advanced collector of Seated Liberty coinage or elite U.S. type coins.
