The 1868 Liberty Seated Dollar remains a difficult post–Civil War issue to locate in true Mint State, and the date becomes particularly challenging above the MS64 level. Although more than 160,000 pieces were struck, a significant percentage was exported and did not circulate domestically, with relatively few high-grade examples returning to the collector market. Fewer than 150 are estimated to survive in MS60 or finer, placing this date among the most elusive of the With Motto issues, aside from the concentrated 1870–1873 group. High-end examples that deliver both technical soundness and fully developed eye appeal are seldom encountered, and CAC endorsement further affirms the quality of the present coin. This Pop 2 PCGS MS64+ CAC example is an elegant, high-end offering with reflective, nearly prooflike fields and satiny luster moving gently across the devices. Both sides remain bright, brilliant silver without color, giving the coin a crisp, composed presence that highlights the sharpness of strike. The surfaces are clean for the assigned grade, with only minimal hits for the grades. Seated Dollars certified at this upper-tier level represent an important segment of the series for advanced collectors. In fact there are NO PCGS MS65 certified and only 3 at MS66, all of which are over 6 figures and locked in permanent collections. The other and most relevant comp is the other MS64+ CAC example which brought $30,550 06/14 HA. There have been no sales for any examples ever selling in this or higher grade since then. In fact even CAC lower grade we dont see any. Dont miss this opportunity.
