1867 Liberty Seated Quarter is a scarce Philadelphia Mint issue from the early Reconstruction period, with an estimated survival of roughly 400 pieces in all grades from a mintage of only 20,000. Subsequent attrition through export and melting further reduced the available supply, making the issue elusive in any condition and particularly difficult to locate with strong technical quality and visual appeal. Well-struck for the date, this example displays luster beneath its toned surfaces. Both sides exhibit medium silver-gray to peripheral toning with warm amber, honey-gold, and copper-orange hues. No CAC-approved AU50 has appeared at public auction, while the next finer CAC-approved AU58 realized $5,170 04/17 HA. Similarly a VF35 CAC is available on the market for $2,500 today. CAC has approved only 1 at this grade and graded 1, this example, with only 8 approved finer. Given the eye appeal and color we are sure this will sell for more, we see the demand and price exceeding the CAC Value.
