The Finest CAC Pop 1/0 ex Gardner 1865 25C. An Important PCGS Pop 1/1 Civil War No Motto Premium Gem Liberty Seated Quarter. Paradime Coins is pleased to offer one of the lowest mintage Liberty Seated Quarters. As was the norm, during the Civil War, silver coinage was hoarded tremendously with most being melted. Thus, finding choice high grade un-cleaned example has been extremely difficult to obtain. According to PCGS, prior to 1865 the lowest 25c mintage was 1827, coupled with low number of survivors and you have a conditional and genuine rarity.

As part of the Eugene Gardner's Consignment notes and description from Heritage when it sold as a MS66 PCGS CAC and not a plus nearly a decade ago for $41,125:

"This sharply struck and lustrous Premium Gem displays original cobalt-blue and golden-russet toning that is more prominent on the obverse. Both sides are remarkably devoid of abrasions, in concert with the singular grade. The strike is remarkably sharp on the obverse; only stars 12 and 13 show minor softness in their centers. The reverse is similarly well-detailed, and both sides show splendid eye appeal. Eugene Gardner himself stated on this piece that "...It took more than 10 years of searching before this coin turned up in a Heritage auction. But it was worth the wait for this beautiful specimen. Technically strong for the grade with eye-catching toning, a true Gem..."

The other Heritage sale Gardner was referencing was the 2010 Heritage sale where this coin brought $48,875 also as a MS66 PCGS CAC. Beyond the visual prowess, technical beauty, important history and Numismatic rarity that this quarter represents, this is also a Pop 1 at MS66+ PCGS and is the finest CAC certified example. 1 PCGS has been certified finer, a non-cac, but this MS66+ PCGS CAC is widely regarded as the finest for the issue with its gigantic personality. For all intents and purpose this coin should be valued at least more than what it previously sold for as a half grade lower almost a decade ago. As such, we find this highly recommended for a long term holding.
