Liberty Head Eagle
One of the rarest $10 minted in the United States, 1865 Eagle was struck during a pivotal period in American history. At the time, the United States was in the midst of the Civil War, the country was deeply divided and tumultuous, despite this, 3,980 pieces were only struck. Today, 52 examples exist in all grades. At XF45 and surrounding grades, there have been no sale in over a decade, save for a NGC AU50 at $18,000 02/18 HA and a AU53 PCGS CAC for $33,600 04/22 ST. The offered example is well struck with mark-free surface and has claims to AU level of details. A pleasing example that typically is seen with high level of abrasions, this piece would serve as a key to any $10 collection and represents strong value for an absolute historical rarity.
