We are proud to offer THE KEY rarity to the entire Liberty Half Eagle. All US numismatic collectors and investors are aware of the uber rare issues of civil war gold. 1864-S $5 stands above them all as one of the rarest of the series and as David Akers' referred to them as "the real rarities of the issue." Mintage 3888 of which only 32 are known in all grades and all conditions. Of the 32, all are accounted for and all are locked in collections. The Fairmont- Hendrickson collection recently sold a AU58 CAC for $264,000. Of the 32, 7 are CAC approved. PCGS has just certified 21 including whilst NGC 10 for a combined population of 31, this of course most certainly includes resubmissions thus we believe 32 to be slightly higher than is. Regardless the mintage is miniscule. The present example is the second lowest graded example, after an AG piece, and as one would except there has never been a sale. This G04 is a PCGS POP 1 and a CAC POP 1. The Price Guide for Good is extremely low and we assure you that would be impossible to find a CAC example at such a price as we most certainly paid much more for it. The lack of sales and examples available is one of the reasons why examples have always been tightly held. The coin is well worn and is accurately graded. No marks, hits or abrasions are seen.  Looking at APR sales in the past decade, we see AG03 CAC ($15,000 4 years ago), XF45 NON-CAC ($44,000-$79,000 8 years ago ), AU58 CAC($264,000) and nothing else in between. Today XF examples, which have no CAC approved coins, will cost approximately $75,000+.

The coin has all the details visible including the mint mark and motto and would serve as a highlight to all gold collections.
