This PCGS-certified 1863 Liberty Seated Quarter stands out as one of the finest graded specimens from this sought-after Civil War era. Its striking toning adds to its allure, presenting a SUPERB GEM quality. As a conditional rarity, it serves as an exquisite type coin and would make a stellar addition to any PCGS Set Registry. With less than 0.5% of the original mintage surviving, totaling only 600 coins out of nearly 200,000 minted, examples of this caliber are exceedingly scarce. Among them, this coin boasts a CAC population of only 6, with none surpassing its quality, and a PCGS population of 10, with only 3 graded higher. The minting of Quarter Dollars experienced a decline starting in 1861, lasting for more than a decade, largely due to the repercussions of the Civil War and the subsequent endeavors to rebuild the nation.

The texture of this coin is truly splendid. The underlying fields exhibit a remarkable brilliance, enhancing the vividness of the colors atop them. Bursting with iridescent highlights, the coin showcases lively hues that gracefully traverse both its surfaces and devices. The most recent sale, $9,600 03/23 ST, featured a dark and unremarkable example. However, a PCGS MS66 CAC coin sold for $15,863 07/20 LE, and an NGC MS66 CAC sold for $12,600 12/21 HA. Nevertheless, none of these specimens exhibit the originality and vibrant coloration seen in the current piece. Given its exceptional qualities, it is conceivable that this coin could command upwards of $15,000 at auction in today's market.
