With a mintage of 139,000 about 7,500 1861 3CS are estimated in all grades today. 1861 3CS has the highest mintage. However, this by no means is the most common date. That honor belongs to 1852 3CS, despite a much smaller mintage. Whilst a typical PCGS MS64 will sell for around $500, this PCGS near GEM example has bountiful luster with full details of both sides of the coin that are crisp and well-defined. This more importantly features attractive peripheral toning seen both on the obverse and reverse and is fully of character adding clash-marks.
