5 year short run series of Indian Head Copper Nickel pennies spanning from 1860-1864. Proof Indian Head, especially type 2, are extremely rare, as most were struck during the Civil War period many with low mintages. 1861 is a beautiful year that exemplifies this with 1,000 minted. The current example is extremely choice for the assigned 65 grade. We see no nicks, marks or hits that explains why it is a 65. Nonetheless, there have been 3 PCGS PR65 CAC comps which are $7,475, $10,575 and $6,169 and the most recent comp for a non cac example was $6,600. In comparing this example to all the mentioned none are as well struck as this or devoid of marks. The obverse has delicate soft salmon pink hues over fully struck devices, whilst the reverse portrays honey gold toning. An excellent example with the highest of eye appeal.
