With a mintage of just 21,200 and an estimated survival of only 50 coins, the 1860-S $5 Liberty is an exceedingly rare pre-Civil War issue from the San Francisco Mint. This example graded XF45 with CAC approval stands out for its incredibly original, smooth surfaces and uniform light yellow-gold color on both sides. The coin's exceptional condition and limited availability make it highly desirable for collectors of rare Liberty Head Half Eagle Coins. The 1860-S $5 is one of the key dates in the Liberty series, and this example represents a rare opportunity to acquire this important issue in high grade. With only a single uncirculated example graded by PCGS and no PCGS sales in this XF45 much less a CAC for over a decade. Opportunities to purchase such an example are few and far between. The most recent PCGS CAC example was a F15 $3,600 03/21 ST and nothing finer since. Bear in mind in XF45+ PCGS cites a Price Guide of $10,000 and in the entire Fairmont Collection there was only 1 1860-S $5, the F15 PCGS CAC cited above. If you are a collector of rare and historic $5 Liberties, this is an exceptional chance to add a key date to your collection.
