1860-S $3 F12 PCGS CAC
Three Dollar
1860 San Francisco Three Dollar is one of 4 San Francisco struck $3 dollar gold coins. Among the four, this date is the rarest with a minuscule mintage of just 7,000 pieces. 1860-S $3 has great fan far not only because of how many were melted and how many survived, but also because it is the only San Francisco Three Dollar surrounding the Civil War era. Today, 450 are estimated to exist and all grades are rare and highly sought after. Furthermore, 1860-S $3 were struck extremely poorly. As a result finding a problem free and attractive or CAC approved example like the present example would be near impossible. The only relevant comp was a lower graded CAC VG10 which sold for $1,753 04/21 DL whilst a cleaned with non-choice VF30 PCGS sold for $2,400 01/23 HA. With clear design over deep tan orange hue and honest wear this coin is worthy of a premium bid that is still currently affordable.
