1860-S $3 F12 PCGS CAC
1860-S $3 F12 PCGS CAC
Three Dollar
Mintage 7,000 for this infamous 1860 San Francisco Three Dollars where 2,592 pieces were melted and destroyed by the Mint. With 450 known today, this 1860-S $3 is rare, expensive and highly sought after in all grades. One of just 3 dates struck at the San Francisco mint, 1860-S $3 is not only rare because of the Civil War period, but is also because many 1860-S $3 were struck extremely poorly. As a result finding a problem free and attractive or CAC approved example would be near impossible. A lower graded VG10 sold for $1,753 04/21 DL, but this higher graded F12 CAC approved example features all the design clearly and with deep tan orange hue. Honest wear adorns the coin, and one worthy of a premium bid.
