1860-D G$1 XF40 OGH PCGS GOLD CAC

Mintage 1,566, Rare Civil-War era Dahlonega Gold Dollar, OGH, GOLD CAC. We are pleased to offer the worst struck Dahlonega gold dollar in the best possible condition. Infamous for being struck with horrible planchets and seen with porous surface and weakness throughout, finding an 1860-D G$1 with eye appeal is perhaps as rare as the coin is. The surface of this present specimen offered is not granular as typically seen but more proof-like, given very few were struck, the devices were deeply impressed and have a deep 3D effect. We are able to see all the numerals on the reverse and no doubt is a high-graded AU by today's standard. Only recently have we realized that 1860-D G$1 strike is horribly struck and thus many were confused for wear. We can see this by how there exist 3 GOLD CAC in all 1860-D G$1 grades today. Comparing this coin to other AU, we see this similar to AU55-AU58. Regardless, this coin is unique and a relevant PCGS AU53 CAC sold for $12,500 09/21 DL.
