We affectionately dubbed this coin the Jolly Green Giant, thanks to its Old Green Holder from PCGS, CAC green sticker, and the delightful honey-yellow-green gold coloration that makes it a standout in the realm of circulated GEM coins! Locating this coin is a formidable task, given that only eight examples boast CAC approval from an initial mintage of 7,000 in all grades! That low number is unbelievable but remarkable. Presently, a mere 45 specimens are estimated in all grades with and without CAC. The scarcity can be attributed to the limited number of West Coast collectors in 1859, coupled with the widespread use of these coins in commercial transactions. This coin claims a prominent position in the overall rarity of the $10 Gold Liberty Eagle series, making its appearance at auctions exceptionally rare and a highly coveted date in the series. The showcased example exhibits uniform wear and exceptional eye appeal. Remarkably free of notable marks or hits, there is still a trace of luster between certain devices, rendering it an affordable and problem-free specimen. As one would expect, no example has sold in the past 6 years, though 3 grades lower a F12 PCGS CAC sold for $5,400 03/23 HA whilst a XF45 PCGS CAC for $18,000 02/24 HA.
