1859-C $5 AU58 PCGS CAC
Liberty Head Half Eagle
The 1859-C Half Eagle is more scarce and rarer than the 1857-C and 1858-C half eagles, especially in AU55 and AU58. Our current offering of this Liberty Head Half Eagle is superb. The surfaces are sharp, free of any marks, and display rich luster and soft yellow gold hue. As all 1859-C $5 the reverse shows weakness, but should not disappoint given its excellent eye appeal for the issue.
CAC has endorsed only 7 specimens for the grade with only a single finer example at MS62 which has never sold. An AU58 PCGS CAC comp sold for $14,400 04/22 ST, whilst an NGC AU58 CAC with a detracting mark on the face for $12,500 07/22 DL. In our opinion, we certainly see this current specimen to be of higher quality and better eye appeal as to the other comparable - a quick picture comparison will confirm. With an already low mintage of 31,847 and only 225 survivors remaining, this highly lustrous 1859-C Half Eagle is a Condition Census piece that will be a delight and prized possession to acquire for this important Branch Mint.
