1859 Liberty Seated Half Proof saw a mintage of 800 pieces. However this number was larger than the expected demand at the time and thus most were destroyed. Today most examples are graded PR64 or lower and without CAM designation, as such higher grade and CAM commands a deep respect among collectors. Less than 5 different examples are known beyond PR65 level with only 2 CAC finer than the PR64 CAM grade.

This turn of the century 50C PR is one of the most eye appealing example we’ve handled. With exuberant concentric and peripheral toning seen both on the obverse and reverse, the coin transition from rainbow patination dominated by bright yellow to blue hues. In hand the luster and surface looks almost liquid like and is the most pleasing. This 1859 Liberty Seated Half Dollar screams eye appeal and should command strong bid. There have been 3 - 1859 50C PR64CAM PCGS CAC sale ( $5,875, $5,288, $5,750) with the last sale nearly 10 years ago, none of which was as attractively toned nor posses any comparison to the offered example. With no PR65CAM PCGS CAC ever having sold and the PR66CAM PCGS CAC, which we sold to the Hansen collection, this for all intents and purpose is the best coin you should buy.
