Liberty Head Half Eagle
Rare Low Mintage Gemmy Philadelphia Mint 1859 Half Eagle. From a small mintage of 16,734 only 75 are known to exist today in all grades. The present example is a census example and is tied for third finest 1859 $5. No APR or auction comps are seen for MS61 grade except for a Price Guide of $12,500. A CAC AU58 recently sold from the Fairmont Collection for $8,400. The present coin is as we hinted, a GEMmy-looking coin with superb luster. A clear uncirculated example unlike other MS61 $5 seen that have been upgraded from au58. With some hits that are in the field, the luster and strike is superb and beyond MS61. Whilst we have seen less attractive examples graded higher, we find this example very choice. If you are looking for a CAC example there is only 1 in all Uncirculated and is graded MS63.
