1858-O 25C AU58 NGC

Under-valued 1858 New Orleans Liberty Seated Quarter. From a mintage of 520,000, only 400 exist today. With this example certified AU58, surprisingly a Condition Census. Typically seen with weak denticals and even weaker star dials, this example is extremely well struck for the issue, and in fact we have no qualms calling this choice AU. Looking at the total Certified Population, we see a total of 202 between NGC and PCGS including resubmissions. Thus, we believe the estimated total number of survivors high. Nonetheless, a superb historical date representative of New Orleans at the peak during its Steamship days. No AU58 example regardless of certification has sold in over a decade with the last PCGS sale at $2,185 in 2011 and NGC at $2,415 in 2004. At AU58 this coin now stands at a CU Price Guide of $3,000, and climbs in multiples in value at UNC. A great price point for an important Conditional Rarity.
