This spectacular 1858 Flying Eagle Cent, attributed as the Snow PR1 Large Letters variety represents one of the rarest and most desirable proof issues within the Flying Eagle series. Recognized as the lowest mintage Proof Flying Eagle cent, this historic issue boasts an estimated original mintage of just 80, with Rick Snow estimating fewer than 50 surviving examples in all grades today—a rarity that eclipses even the more widely common varieties of the 1856 Proof cents. The obverse is diagnostic for this die pairing, easily identified by the two small die file marks beneath the first "8" in the date, as struck. This Premium Gem specimen showcases the unmistakable characteristics of an early proof striking, with deeply reflective bronze-gold fields, needle-sharp devices, and lightly frosted design elements. The surfaces display an extraordinary blend of coppery-gold luster across the central devices, framed by reddish-bronze, russet-orange, and faint lavender iridescence, shifting dynamically under light and elevating the eye appeal to a superb level. In fact, the eagle is almost rendered in 3D thanks to its toning - see reverse holder image. The reverse wreath exhibits complementary golden-bronze and russet-red toning, accented by subtle flashes of peach and golden-yellow within the recessed elements.PCGS Graded, CAC Approved & Eagle Eye Photo Sealed.
