This 1857-O $20 VF35 OGH PCGS CAC is a rare find for collectors. With mintage of only 30,000 coins only approximately 209 are believed to exist today. It is one of the rarer New Orleans struck $20 with similar rarity to the 1858-O double eagles yet it is much scarcer in all circulated grades than either the 1850-O or the 1853-O. The strike of most of these coins is below average and one will seldom find a 1857-O Double Eagle with problem-free surface and an attractive patina, since these were heavily circulated. Coins of this date tend to display heavy abrasions. Aesthetically, the coin features deep green-gold coloring and is nicer than nearly every XF40 example we have seen on the market. A CAC Pop 1 and the lowest at that, it is also one of the lowest graded PCGS example. Only one APR for VF35 (non-CAC) exists in the past 5 years which is worlds apart was for a VF35 NGC example at $9,000 01/23 HA. No CAC comp exists, though CAC Price Guide suggests a value of $12,400. This is likely the cheapest CAC example one will be able to acquire.
