Pop 1/0 CAC Sticker & CACG 1/0. CAC Value $21,500. This 1856-S Liberty Seated Quarter certified MS63 by PCGS with CAC approval, represents one of the most elusive condition rarities in the series and one of the most challenging early San Francisco Mint silver issues to locate in true Mint State. Although 286,000 pieces were struck, nearly the entire mintage entered immediate and prolonged Western commercial circulation, resulting in extremely limited high-grade survivorship with 350 in all grades. Fewer than 20 Mint State examples are believed to exist, and CAC approval at this level places this piece firmly among the finest known. The eye appeal is exceptional, beginning with a base of soft pearl gray across both sides that transitions into shifting iridescence, consisting of emerald green, amber-gold, and magenta tones that gather most noticeably toward the borders. The central devices remain boldly lustrous and smooth, retaining their original frosted texture with no significant marks interrupting the presentation. The fields are calm and satiny, showing gentle cartwheel rotation and a balanced complexion that aligns with the assigned grade. Strike quality is better than typically encountered for this issue. Minor handling marks are present but do not distract from overall appearance and are entirely consistent with the Select Mint State designation. The rarity of this issue in high grade is reinforced by its extremely thin auction record. The same example realized $19,200 in August 2024 SB, and was the plate coin for the issue in Larry Briggs reference. Paradime Coins having handled the other CACG 1/0 example, we feel confident in saying this is the superior example.
