This CAC-endorsed 1856 Proof 64 Brown ½ Cent is an exceptional specimen showcasing vibrant colors against a chocolate brown background. Spectacular cobalt and aquamarine blues transform into cinnamon red with fuchsia hues when tilted. Its high reflectivity and nearly flawless fields enhance its striking appearance, featuring some field-to-device contrast. The toned nature of this coin adds to its desirability, making it stand out among other ½ Cent Proof coins. Ideal for a type set, this coin boasts eye appeal that sets it apart.

Out of a mintage of 225, only an estimated 50 are believed to have survived. With a CAC population of 4 in this grade and only 1 finer, its rarity is further underscored. The reverse die, featuring the doubled T in CENT, initially appeared on the 1856 ½ Cent Proof coins, later appearing on the 1857 B-2 1⁄2 Cents, and was subsequently identified by Breen as Reverse B for the first Restrike ½ Cents dated 1840 to 1849 and 1852. Notably, there have been no CAC sales recorded in any grade finer than this. The higher PCGS guide value of $11,000 further accentuates the investment potential of this piece.
