From a mintage of 18,000 only a 100 survivors are known today in all grades. 0.5% of all coins of this date have survived for this New Orleans Eagle, most of which are seen in VF and XF condition. In AU and UNC this date is exceptionally rare. While most 1855-O $10 are seen with abraded surfaces, this coin is unique in that for an au its surfaces are exceptionally clean. Compare any examples. This coin does have the original green-gold as seen on nearly all 1855-O $10. The present coin is fully struck, with full radial stars save for one. While some cleaned and heavily abraded surfaces have hit the market, some relevant comps include au50 pcgs for $6,200, ngc au53 for $$6,600 and prior $7,200 and for AU55 the last ngc au55 for $13,200 for a nice unabraded choice example. The detail of liberty curl and shield on the reverse is fully struck too, making this a premium coin with original color for a coin with 100 survivors!
