With a survival estimate of 750 coins, the 1855 Three-Cent Silver is a highly scarce issue. Struck as the second year of the Type 2 sub-type, this coin features attractive hues but as seen is struck slightly soft. The 1855 has the lowest mintage of any date from the 1850s and the distinction of having the lowest mintage of all dates until 1863, making it one of the most valuable in the series. This example is CAC-approved, with a population of just 4 and only 18 finer. The coin displays beautiful original toning on both sides, with intricate peachy-lilac highlights set against soft ocean-blue patinas. The 1855 Three-Cent Silver was produced in limited quantities, with only 139,000 coins struck, and is especially scarce in high grades. No recent APR exists though in higher grade an original un-toned MS64 PCGS CAC sold for $2,400 07/23 HA.
