This 1855 Upright 5 Large Cent, attributed as Newcomb-6 (Rarity-3), certified MS65+ RD by PCGS and approved by CAC, stands as the single finest known representative of its die marriage certified by either major grading service and remains a standout specimen both technically and visually. The coin retains full 100% Mint Red —qualities seldom seen from mid-19th-century copper. Very few marks are visible in fact when this exact example sold in 2017 in the Goldbergs for $7,638 02/17, it was described as "Our grade is MS66." It is CC#1 in the Grellman census as the finest, and Ted Naftzger famously described this cent as “MS-70 Full Blaze.” Beyond the surface preservation, Red, pedigree which includes Koshkarian, Naftzger, Doug Bird and Bill Noyes, this example is also an important Rarity 3 Necomb 6. A normal Rarity 1 without any pedigree 65+ RD PCGS CAC most recently sold for $5,368 01/26 HA. Considering this pedigree, the under-graded quality, pedigree and rare variety we believe this a great value purchase at the given price.
