Mintage of 123,826, with an estimated 475 remaining today. This coin marks the first production of Eagles at the San Francisco Mint since the US Mint began. Interestingly 1854-S $10 are unique from other $10 in their mintmark position: while usually placed just below and between the talon and the fletch of the arrow, the 1854-S Eagle mintmark is placed further to the right, just below and between the fletch and stem end. This distinctive change has not been expounded on enough and in all honesty should draw more attention to its uniqueness. Nonetheless, we believe it is undervalued not only for the placement of the mintmark but also as the first date at the San Francisco mint for the Eagle series. Among them this coin is the most affordable and the second lowest graded example, beaten by one VG10. This coin also a Pop 1 shows wonderful yellow-gold color with honest wear seen. It is eye appealing and shows no hairlines as commonly seen. A historic lowball coin with no comp, except a PCGS Price Guide of $1,600 and a 02/23 sale of XF45 PCGS for just under $2,000.
