The 1854 San Francisco Liberty Head Eagle gold coin holds enduring popularity among collectors as the inaugural Liberty Head Eagle produced at the San Francisco mint. Its numismatic significance should not be underestimated by collectors. Due to the commercial demand for coins during the Gold Rush economy, where tangible assets were crucial, only a small number of pieces survived in mint state. Out of a mintage of 123,826, only 475 coins are known to exist today. This coin showcases a delightful orange-gold patina on both sides, accentuating its sharp details. While there are light handling marks that define its grade, overall, it presents as a very appealing, problem-free specimen.

Typically, the mintmark on Liberty Head Eagles is located on the reverse, positioned just below and between the talon and fletch of the arrow. However, San Francisco diverged from this convention by placing the mint mark farther to the right, just below and between the fletch and stem end.
