While relatively speaking this is a more common Dahlonega mint half eagle, it is by no means easy finding a problem-free, un-dipped or un-cleaned example with eye appeal much less with CAC certification. Whilst this coin possesses all those tough qualities, this 1854-D Half Eagle superiority lies in its toning and attractive colors. Ash-burn red on the devices over pumpkin orange in the devices leaves little to the imagine why large premiums have been paid for attractive D mint coins. Point in case 1854-D $5 Large XF40 PCGS CAC 08/2021 HA at $6,000, for an example that in our opinion is slightly less attractive than this.
