1854 $3 MS63 PCGS CAC
1854 $3 MS63 PCGS CAC
Three Dollar
The 1854 $3 gold piece, the inaugural issue of this denomination, holds significant appeal for type collectors due to its unique historical and numismatic importance. As the first year of the series and the only issue featuring the distinctive small-letter "DOLLARS" reverse, it represents a one-year-only design, making it a prized addition to any collection. Struck in Philadelphia alongside limited production in Dahlonega and New Orleans, the coin’s rarity is further accentuated by its absence from Charlotte and Carson City mints and its sporadic issuance by San Francisco starting in 1855. This near-Gem example boasts vibrant luster, sharp strike, and minimal imperfections, whilst the fields showcases polished, reflective fields. Next grade up in MS64 this coin will cost double closer to $10,000, thanks to increased demand for the entire $3, they have been incredibly tough to find. No MS63 CAC has sold for over a decade; however, a lower grade MS62 PCGS CAC have sold for $4,230 02/23 LE, whilst a MS62+ PCGS CAC for $4,508 02/22 GC. CAC Guide is $5,500 but considering what MS62 CAC sell for, we find this coin in this grade undervalued. You just dont see these anymore on the market.
