One of the most interesting overdate in US Numismatics, 1853/4 ARROWS & RAYS Liberty Seated Quarter is a numismatic oddity. Where as overdates are 99% always created from dies used from a preceding year, i.e 1942/1 10C, never in US Numismatics was there a future die used on an older year, as in this case. Baffling numismatists for a while, the census and only logical explanation for this overdate now is that during late 1853, when 1854 dies were already created, the engraver used the 1854 dies under the 1853.

Gunmetal shades fill both sides of this With Arrows variety, with a few traces of sun-yellow on high points. Well struck with full star's radial lines evident. A superb example with just a tad wear on high points, but very close to a au58. Perfect for type and date collectors. Values climb very quickly in unc, for this CAC POP 1 with no CAC sale ever. The last PCGS sale was one on 05/22 HA for $1,500, a NON-CAC example. There has been only 2 sales in the past 16 years which speak volume to its rarity. If only this issue were more available and found in change, it would be even more popular than 1942/1 10C and other mint from that issue. A great coin for the true numismatist.
