The second lowest mintage for a New Orleans Eagle, 1852-O $10 is one of the rarest No Motto Eagles in the entire series. As Doug Winter states "I regard this as a very undervalued date that has still not received the merit it deserves, especially in higher grades." From a paltry mintage of 18,000, 110 are known today in all grades. No CAC AU53 example has ever sold though lower graded AU50 CAC examples sold for $9,000 08/21 HA and $12,295 11/16 HA, and a higher graded AU55 sold for $16,800 08/22 ST. We personally regard the AU55 PCGS CAC ex Fairmont piece as lacking character more specifically lacking the attractive colors that choice 1852-O $10 have. With the current offered example as likely grading AU55 in our opinion today. Attractive medium green-gold patina with hints of luster surrounding the devices. Incredibly tough to find with attractive colors, as most examples have not been cleaned. Impossible to find with CAC approval and interestingly, only 1 or 2 UNC are known. An incredibly choice example that is worthy of inclusion in any collection.
