Three Cent Silver

Over the years, we've handled our fair share of high-quality Three Cent Silver pieces. However, this 1851 3CS Trime stands out as one of the most breathtaking examples we've ever encountered. It likely spent its time stored in an envelope, preserving its original color and skin. Finding a coin that impresses both in hand and on the PCGS True view can be challenging, but this coin possesses the necessary eye appeal for a spectacular collection. The colors span the entire spectrum of the rainbow, with each hue accentuated on different areas of the coin's surfaces.
Although the initial mintage exceeded 5 million, continuous circulation in commerce has dwindled the surviving number. These Three Cent Silver pieces were the first coins minted in the U.S. with significantly less metal value than face value. Unlike other silver coins of this era, which had more metal value and were hoarded and melted, the 1851 is a more common date, allowing type collectors to be picky and acquire only the best example at a reasonable price.
