One of 175 known in all grades from a low mintage of 12,148, we are proud to offer one of the finest 1850-D $2.5 AU58 PCGS CAC. The 1850 Dahlonega Quarter Eagle can be typically found in VF-XF but is incredibly rare finer than AU53. Nearly all 1850-D $2.5 is never well struck and any existing examples are mostly plagued by cleaned and un-original surface. This example is one of 7 approved by CAC with no sale in the past 13 years. The example is sharply struck on the claw, neck, with no rim dings and with no abrasions. A near perfect AU58 with superb eye appeal and attractive orange gold color. As if this coin did not need more, its surfaces are semi-proof like yet has tremendous amount of luster akin to a MS62. Only two CAC finer exists both in MS61, one that sold at SB for $28,800 03/2018 and one now offered on the market a PCGS MS61 CAC for over $40,000. At AU58 PCGS, only 1 example has sold in the past decade a NON-CAC at $6,600 06/22 which was the same example that sold 10/2011 HA, 08/2007 HA and 04/2007 HA. Clearly close to no sale exists finer than AU55. The only comps are lower grade examples as:

XF45 PCGS CAC for $6,600 10/2021

AU53 NGC CAC for $6,000 08/22 ST

AU55+ PCGS CAC for $8,400 08/2020

Comparing both the MS61 PCGS CAC example to this AU58 PCGS CAC example we believe ours at near a quarter of the price represents better value and is visually more eye appealing, and with strong support for lower grade CAC examples, this example should bring a new price record in today's market.
