1850 $10 LARGE DATE MS63 PCGS
1850 $10 LARGE DATE MS63 PCGS
Liberty Head Eagle
Newly graded from a capitol holder is a sublime luster-thick uniquely toned 1850 Gold Eagle. 1850 $10 were minted in Large Date and Small Date. The Large Date Red Book Type has an estimated 300 pieces in all grades! The current example graded MS63 is tied with 2 other and 3 finer, including 1 or 2 resubmissions.
In the past twenty years there have been 2 APR a CAC example for $48,000 and a clearly dipped and planchet flaw example for $26,400. Currently at MS63 this coin has a Price Guide of $40,000, and we would not be surprised for an attractively toned example with myraid character, swirling luster and deep blood-red toning would sell around the Price Guide at public auction. A great coin for those who need character, story and perhaps a little oomph and color for their coins.
