Superbly Toned Red Book Overdate, 1849/6 9 Over Widely Placed 6 Half Dime Certified By PCGS AU58 from a mintage of 1.3 Million, only 175 are known today. A PCGS POP 8, PCGS Price Guide $900 with only a handful finer is rarer than the 1849/6 H10C counterpart. 1849/6 h10c has had some controversy in the past about what the under-digit was, but the coins are now designated by pcgs as 1849/6 9 Over Widely Placed 6 and 1849/6, and pcgs estimated between 175 are known for this variety and 300 for the other. Thus this overdate trades at a premium and is collected as a very rare variety. The offered coin is a spectacular example not only for the popularity and controversy but more importantly also because of the deep toning from amber red to light neon blue. We see no real sale for the 1849/6 9 Over Widely Placed 6 at au58 though 1849/6 h10c have sold for $600-$800 for un-toned examples.
