The present 1849 half eagle example display no marks or hits with crusty looking surfaces that deliver superb eye appeal to the viewer. The pumpkin-gold colors show sharp strikes on both sides of the specimen. It is a well-preserved and magnificent original piece with rich details present. The devices show great detail detail for the grade and is sure to be extremely popular to collectors and enthusiasts alike. Only 2 examples have been recognized by CAC with 20 finer pieces. The most recent comp sold for $7,500 12/22 HA, two years ago, but more recently a non-CAC lower graded VF20 sold for $6,600 03/24 HA, whilst a XF40 PCGS CAC for $18,000 06/24 HA.
