The 1848 Liberty Seated Half Dollar has an estimated survival of just about 600 coins (representing only 0.103% of the original mintage), is inherently scarce across all grades. Extremely elusive in Uncirculated condition, this particular piece ranks among the finest known just at MS64 with a CAC Pop of 7 and only 4 finer. Certified in an old rattler holder, this 1848 50C MS64 Rattler PCGS CAC coin features a sharp strike and extremely lustrous surface. Its smooth fields show a classic old silver look, enhanced by subtle antique-gold and bronze tones around the edges and blue-gray highlights at the center, emphasizing its depth and relief. With two MS64 CAC comps one for an NGC at $6,000 06/21 HA and a more relevant but darker NON-rattler PCGS MS64 OGH CAC at $7,500 11/22 ST. With a PCGS Price Guide of $7,250 and a relevant comp, we certainly like this coin.
