1848 $10 AU50 PCGS CAC
Up until the late 1840s, the gold eagle was the largest denomination issued by the United States Mint. Although the 1848 Liberty Head Eagle has a high mintage of 145,484 pieces, it's survival rate is a mere 0.17% which is only 250 survivors in total. This incredibly lustrous piece is undermined by its AU50 grade which we perceive to be higher than what it is. It boasts proof-like fields displaying surface scuffs which a slightly exaggerated than it actually is. The CAC approval only adds to the already appealing features of this beautiful piece. No recent and relevant comps are noted since gold shot up; however, a AU55 PCGS CAC sold for $3,360 06/24 ST.
