1846-O $2.5 XF45 PCGS CAC
1846-O $2.5 XF45 PCGS CAC
Liberty Head $2.5
The 1846-O Liberty Head Quarter Eagle, graded XF45 by PCGS and approved by CAC, is a wonderfully original and survivor from one of the more elusive New Orleans gold issues of the pre-Civil War era with only 175 estimated in all grades. The coin glows with deep orange-gold and antique honey coloration, enriched by amber and light copper-gold hues that gather softly around the stars, date, and outer rims. Lightly reflective under angled light, the fields maintain a subdued mint glow that complements the frosted design elements. This coin’s overall appearance is exceptional for an XF example, offering the smooth texture, natural luster, and rich toning that seasoned collectors associate with unaltered early Southern gold. Its originality and balance are validated by CAC approval, placing it among the most desirable survivors of this issue. According to CAC data, only 4 examples have been approved in this grade, with 41 finer. It is clear that this coin for its rarity, number of survivors these are underrated.
