1846/'5'-O $10 AU55 PCGS CAC
1846/'5'-O $10 AU55 PCGS CAC
Liberty Head Eagle
One of the rarest No Motto eagles from the New Orleans Mint, 1846-O $10 has no more than 200+ estimated examples today. 1846/'5'-O $10 is an exceptional tough coin that as Doug Winter states finding examples with good eye appeal in high grade is "nearly unheard of." We couldn't agree more. Of the top condition census which begins in AU55 none of them have choice surface, yet these command significant demand and prices. A non-CAC AU58 PCGS sold for $40,800 04/22 ST. Comparing that example to this, we firstly feel ours under-graded, has the same amount of wear to that AU58 and is more choice with no rim hits or detracting marks. In the past 13 years at AU55 PCGS only 1 example has sold a non-CAC dipped AU55 PCGS with hairlines that "still" sold for $9,000 03/18 HA. At AU55, only 2 CAC have been certified with a single example finer at MS61 PCGS CAC. Having seen the MS61 PCGS CAC example it unfortunately has a major spot at 1pm and we are surprised that it CAC'ed. This example not only outshines the $40,000+ AU58 PCGS non-CAC but also outshines the MS61 PCGS CAC in eye appeal. This New Orleans eagle showcases near Mint State luster with honey-orange gold. It's perfectly-struck with no abrasions in sight as seen. The surface is original and flawless. One of the finest that is never seen this nice.
