Only 12 coins were only ever minted for this uber-rare 1846 Liberty Quarter seated proof. All 12 were no doubt for dignitaries and maybe one or two collectors. Of those 12 mintage, this example is simply the finest and is pedigreed and plate-matches to the Norweb Collection. Not only is it the highest graded 1846 proof 25c, it is also the only CAC approved pr65. In other words, if one were to need a mintage 12 proof liberty seated quarter this would be the best. The edges are sharply struck with rounded edge, identifying its proof-nature, the fields are evenly toned with eclectic rose-silver toning over hints of sky blue over the devices. The offered example has never been recorded in the roster of these 12 coins. Almost all have been traced, but this stands outstandingly as a unique example that has been kept from the numismatic community for over 35 years.
